Converting from DVD to Divx or Xvid?

Hi everyone,

I was reading a few tutorials on other forums on converting from DVD to Divx but them tutorials use avisynth. Is there any guides to convert from DVD to Divx or Xvid with VirtualDub or VDMod without using the avisynth? I keep getting error messages using it.

No but it seems like i am making the .avs file wrong. Too be honest i just forget about Divx and Xvid. I go with something more less painful and easy WITHOUT requring avisynth. That is the part i hate the most. Encoding don't bother me. It is the command line that bothers me. I go with something like SVCD.

Load your vob files in VirtualdubMod( or VirtualdubMPEG2).If your title has multiple vobs,then first join the vobs into a single vob before feeding in to VDMPEG2. Now under both Video and Audio choose full processing mode.Choose the video compressor(DivX/XviD) and configure it.Same for Audio(Lame MP3 maybe).Under video use the inbuilt filters to resize or crop. Then save as avi.

What is a good tool for joining VOB's and how do i join them?

I do not have .net framework 2 and can run VirtualdubMod or VDMPEG2. In fact I can also load via .avs script. AFAIK, MeGUI requires .net framework 2.

Try Vobmerge.
But I personally prefer to backup the DVD as a single vob(for each title).That way there is no need to join them later.

I am using VOBMerge but it joined half of the movie and it didn't join the rest of it. Does anyone know why?

I hope the drive to which you are saving is NTFS ?
You can also try VideoReDo for the joining job.It is not freeware,but an excellent program.
Another way to join vob files:

Using the Windows copy command: Because the VOBs are simply split files created from previously contiguous larger file, you can reconstruct the larger file using the window copy command. To do this:
a) Open a cmd window using the Windows run command.
b) cd to the folder containing your VOB files.
c) At the command line, enter a command similar to:
copy /b vob1.vob + vob2.vob + vob3.vob outputFile.mpg

This will concatenate multiple VOB files into one output file. Note: Please don't forget the /b switch.

No way i do not think so. Those commands are hard and yes it is NTFS. I used VOBMerge. I followed a guide. Will either you or someone else post back here on digital-digest because i have a site here and i wanted to know will someone read it and help me with the audio. Oh it is encoding now.
