    Audio Codec and VirtualDub

    Hello all, I'm a newbie...

    I have two 3MB .avi files that I want to merge into 1. I've downloaded all the needed codecs (DivX 4.11, Radium Mp3) and software and have read all the FAQs & tutorials. However, I'm still having some trouble. This is what the problem is:

    a) when I tell VirtualDub to save my new .avi file I get an error that says: Error Initializing audio stream compression. The requested conversion is NOT possible.

    The two avi files are compressed using the fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec, 8,000 Hz, 2 Channel Stero.

    I am trying to get the output file to have a 128kbit, 48,000 Hz, Stero Mpeg Layer-3 audio format. But it won't happen.

    If I set the compression to the same rate as the original avi files virualdub works okay but the end file is big. It's 32MB! How can this be? If you merge the two 3MB files should I not get a 6MB file?

    So is it that my audio compression is not correct? And if the original audio compression is 8,000 HZ does that mean that my new compression can be no better than the original?

    Someone please help.

      Make certain to change the setting under "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying".

      Let us know of your success ;>}
