Need to convert to Divx 6.0

hi everyone,

this is my fist post here so I really hope I will get my asnwers

I need to convert different type of video formats to divx 6.0 since this is what my dvd player in my car supports. Before I encoded to the latest one (7) but it wont play

I mostly have .avi files and some other HD rips or BD rips... well things that one could download nowdays...

The crusial thing here is I thing the divx version. In pioneer they told me I should take up to 6.0 (not sure if for example version divx 6.5 is the same).

PLEEEASE help me with this solution how to convert all the files I need.

P.s. downloaded a divx 6 pro... but all the 3 different movies that I tried to convert showed me the same error...something with MPEG-1 audio coded..

What tool are you using to encode the video? DivX Converter?

If you're using something like VirtualDub, which allows you to configure the DivX certification profile, then you need to make sure you are using a profile that matches what the hardware in your car's DVD player supports. For DVD players, this usually means the "Home Theater" profile, which puts certain encoding limits that will hopefully ensure compatibility with a wide range of playback hardware.

I used the divx converter (6.0 bundle) with the Home Theatre profile selected...however it shows me the error that I said alread (something with missing MPEG-1 audio)...

I also tried to encode with Dr. Divx 1.06... there when I select the destination... it says folder is read-only.... I have Vista with two profiles...tried to remove the read only...well..didn't manage so I don't really know if this software works.

My question really now is how do I know which version of divx each program uses?? Cause they just write divx...but it could be any version... I need up to 6.0...

If your player can play DivX, it means it can play MPEG4 ASP. It has NOTHING TO DO with which version of DivX you use as encoder. In fact it will play XviD encoded files too. As Admin advised, make sure you use the correct parameters when configuring DivX, like GMC,QPEL etc.
As for the audio codec error, install Lame mp3(mp3 is mpeg 1 audio layer 3).

guys... I've tried already paying some of xvid that I had. It doesn't play xvid movies! The pioneer guys specifically told me that the divx it supports up to 6.0 version. I can't really say what is the difference between the new versions, but for fact when I encoded with divx7 encoder using Home Theater profile...it could not recognize the file.

paglamon... I really appreciate the info you provided...but I don't really know how to use the settings and what software to use in order to convert.

I suppose there should be something for beginners

P.s. maybe the model of the device I'm talking about will help (pioneer avh-p4000dvd)

Please provide file information of any AVI(XviD or DivX) which is NOT playing in that player. Use Mediainfo to give us the full info.

Here are two files that I've tried... the first one was encoded using dr. divx 1.06 and it plays (far cry(...

the second one is xvid (revamped)...and the device does not support it.

Does this help to provide me with more feedback?

Well, it seems(from those text files) Far Cry is XviD encoded and Revamped is DivX. So, which one plays ok ?

the DivX one.... moreover, it plays only up to divx 6.0 (as per pioneer rep office).
Before that I've tried encode using the divx 7 (home theater profile) and it didn't work.

One more question. I downloaded the lame mp3 from the site that you said. There is no installation file there...there is just an .exe file which doesn't do much..

In your earlier post you said that Far Cry is the one that plays OK. Please sort out your confusion first.

paglamon... I am really sorry for the confusion. The file that DOES NOT play is the far cry...which is in xvid format.

About the lame mp3... I was asking how to use it with divx converter... cause as you can see above, it shows me that MPEG-1 audio codec is missing...

I have never used DivX converter. For all my conversion needs I have used either Virtualdub or AVIDemux. For VD you need to install that Lame ACM MP3(instructions are also given at that link). AVIDemux does not need any external codec, but it can only encode with XviD(no DivX support).
Do you get any error message when you try to play the XviD encoded file ? I still cannot comprehend that a player which can play DivX encoded avi will not play XviD encoded avi.
Can you upload a very small file(about 1 min. or so) which I can then encode with XviD and see if that plays in your player. In fact, you can upload 1 min. of Revamped(the DivX encoded) which I will reencode with XviD and then you can test with that file.

paglamon, could you encode any video file in xvid format... I don't have installed right now any software that could work with video files (to cut 1 min. from the file you requested).

If you will manage to make my receiver to play xvid files..that will make my life much easier.

please note that they specifically write (including DivX 6!!!) therefore,7 is for sure not supported.
