Using TMPGEnc XPress to make a DVD?

    Hey all,
I was trying to make a DVD using TMPGEnc XPress and everytime I encode the file to a DVD compatable mpeg file, when I put it in my DVD player it says that it has no audio files or image files. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance...

Not all players will play .mpg files burned as a data disc. Try setting the output to PAL or NTSC DVD. Here's a guide: http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/55/59/

For grins and not to waste your work, you can try using the .mpg file as input to an authoring program. DVDAuthorGUI will accept .mpg files that have navpacks. If this .mpg doesn't have navpacks then you'll have to demux it to video and audio streams, then feed it as a title into DVDAuthorGUI.

Is there a guide to demux to audio and video streams that I can then put into DVDAuthorGUI?

For demuxing I just use TMPGEnc Plus. Even the free version of it has MPEG Tools under the File menu. Just use the Simple Demultiplex tab. It's way easy. Probably why I've never really learned to use another muxer/demuxer accept for AviDemux.

You can get the free one from here:

Okay so now I've demultiplexed the file into its individual streams and I have an .m2v file and an .mp2 file. So then I uploaded to DVDAuthorGUI which only accepts the .m2v file. What do I do now with the .mp2 audio stream?

DVDAuthorGUI is a bit weird. I remember I thought the same thing when I first used it now that you mention it. When you do Add Title, it should open the file open dialog. Select the .mv2 file. Then it should open the file open dialog again. This is when you can select the .mp2 file. It will also accept .ac3. With DVDAuthorGUI you have to watch because it may look like it only accepts certain files, but often there's another little dropdown list in the dialog. It must be the tools used to program it made it easier just to add that on than the redo the dialog(I'm guessing.) Once you've used it a couple of times then it's no sweat.

edit: usually on videohelp.com on the page where you can download a tool, if there are any guides they are listing someplace in the column. Also there's a guides list you can search.

I wrote the dialog that way because, at the time, the vob/mpg importing functionality was in an alpha stage, and I really didn't want users using it unless they knew what they were doing. Since then, I have added code that verifies if it is a valid stream or not, so adding a '*all file types' as a default wouldn't be that bad an idea.

FYI: I used the same logic with the rasterized(sup) and the text based subtitles dialog.

Thanks for the tool. It's been a staple in my video toolbox for a long time.

Your welcome. Glad to see there's still a few users out there .

BTW, I saw this thread thanks to google alerts (a very handy tool).

If you go to the site in my sig I have a few small Windows utilities. I think the one I got right and the most useful is ReOpen. If you find one or two of my utilities useful that would be great. Like you say, it's nice when you know somebody else is actually using the stuff you code.
