Recompressing AVI file

I have an AVI file I would like to recompress as following:

WHY would you weant to do so?
does the file not play on a certain device?

your input avi seems to be in h263 format but tagged as divx5 so i assume you want to play this file on a dvd player and the player cannot handle the input format - correct?

to convert this make sure to have codecs for input as well as output format and dont use the old divx3!

install ffdshow

open the file in virtualdub

set video to "full processing mode" and audio to direct stream (in order to NOT reconvert audio as well) and select XVID as your output encoder

finally use "save as" to start this conversion

Format settings, GMC : 2 warppoints

This was probably the reason for the player not being able to play the file. GMC needs to be set to 0 for most standalone players.
