mkv or wmv to (dl) dvd conversion software

hi i have some great quality movies in mkv and wmv format and would like to convert them to dvd and would like to know what software is best for converting them to dvd for the best quality ( i have some dual layer dvds ). i am currently using tmpgenc but it i only have the basic guide for conversion ( its on the internet ) and it seems to lower the quality and resolution from 1200 x 800 to 720 x 480. i dont mind paying good money for good software so any help would be appreciated.

just in case you should have a blu-ray player you could turn MKV into AVCHD in minutes without loosing quality

otherwise you could convert with for example avstodvd or convertxtodvd
