If you mean rebuilding the index you can either use

DivFix 1.10 / 1.13 beta Free Download - VideoHelp

DivFix fixes broken DivXs, AVIs, XviDs. DivXFix, AVIFix, XviDFix. If this wont work try the newer DivFix++ also.

or AviDemux. First time use set all the checkboxes in Edit=>Preferences=Automation Tab

When it loads an .avi file it will automatically rebuild the index if it needs it:
