Use Smart ripper in files mode* instead of movie mode when ripping, in movie mode smartripper strips secondary video streams from the vobfiles this renders the ifo file invalid.

This method worked for gez see

*only do this if u are useing flask with subtitlesfix or u are absolutly sure u know what u are doing.

The problem is that SmartRipper can't create a ifo file that matches the altered vob-files, it merly copies the ifo-file.

        Oh

And do try Xmpeg 4.2. That was what gez used.

Sorry about the number of postings.

Well to begin with I ripped in files mode. I just tried Xmpeg 4.2 and when I try to open the IFO file it just does nothing and after I hit the green arrow. It doesn't even give an error message.

            Dammit.

You just proved that all my statements in this thread is based on a lie.

I think now would be a good time to start making my apologise.
            Sorry

Anyway if you don't want subtitles burned into the avi file, you can just open the first vob file.

If u want subs in the avi file, u have to use vobsub with virtualdub.

A resonably easy way to do this would be to use GordianKnot

Actually kph, I just tried ripping it again but this time in backup mode and it does open! Those stupid little details. Thanks for the help.

I am overjoyed to hear form u again crazyCelt.

It is a bit strange that u have to use the backup mode in smartrip,
                  and then again perhaps not.

AFAIK, the only difference between files mode and backup mode is that files mode lets u select the files u want while backup mode rips all the files.
The ifo file probably contains reference to the vob files containing the DVD-menu's, it is rather silly that this kind of thing makes flask crash, and very sad that it won't give any meaningful error messages.
But if this was easy it would be no fun.

Anyway I am very thankful, for your input on this subject.

                  Kind Regards

I'm a newbie as well... I have just started ripping off DVDs and learning how it's done. I've managed to rip dvds on divx and svcd, but without subtitles.

The flaskmpeg gave me the same problem as mentioned here. If I choose to open the .vob file and not the .ifo - it allows me to encode the movie alright, but without the subtitles, and it's annoying.
I ripped the vobs from the DVD using Smart Ripper (movie mode). I will soon try ripping it using "backup mode" and I'll see if flaskmpeg don't give me the IFO error. I'll update this message soon.

btw - i've noticed your chat started at 2001, and now it's 2004 and there is no update since =)

                      Me again,
I've ripped the movie using "Backup mode" which copied the entire DVD (7GB), and the flaskmpeg worked just fine! Subtitles and everything! Wooha! Finnaly.

Thanks everyone for keeping this forum alive, it's great. Helped me a lot with my personal backups.
You guys are doing a holy work!
