WD USB Media Player as easy as the promo looks?

I'm getting interested in playing .mkv hi def video directly on my HDTV. So far the easiest route seems to be Western Digital USB Media Player. Anyone using this method can you tell me is it that easy? What restriction afa resolutions etc. can it handle?

At this point I haven't played any HD content directly on the TV other than what comes over the Cable. I have an upconverting DVD player. But I'd like to stop messing around with conversions and see some nice hi def stuff on the TV. I have a 250 GB USB drive I can use for the purpose so if this WD thing is as easy as it looks on the WD promo video I'd like to try it out. Just looking for pointers so I don't get burned. One thing, this TV has HDMI input but the highest resolution available is 1080i.

Still, since it's basically a CRT Color TV with hi res and 16x9 mode, and only 27" screen, video looks pretty good on it since it's not blown up(sorry for the run-on sentence)
