FLV to AVI using VirtualDub mod?

I have attempted to use this guide:

FLV to AVI Conversion Guide | Articles - Digital Digest

Which honestly I believe I used before.

But for some reason now I am having two issues.

If I actually follow the guide and turn off A/V interleaving in VDub-Mod, I get no audio at all.

Also, on this one FLV, FLV Extract, just spits out a .264 for the video and VDub-Mod or VDub refuse to open it, I tried the DirectShow Input Filter and even an AVS script, the file doesn't want opened in VDub.

The guide is a bit outdated now, since there are easier methods (such as using SUPER or MediaCoder) to convert FLV files to AVI. Try those if you're having problems with VDubMod.

As for the .264 video file, that's H.264 video, and these are not suited to be placed in AVI containers. You should use MP4 instead, and instructions on how to do it can be found here:

    MP4 Usage Guide - Page 5 of 5 | Articles - Digital Digest

    (under the section MP4 multiplexing)

You can then still use SUPER/MediaCoder to convert the MP4 to AVI, if needed (though I prefer the MP4 format, since it's supported on a wide variety or devices, including most Apple ones, if the original FLV used video that's compatible).

And if you're getting your FLV videos online, there are lots of flash video grabbers (including a few FireFox add-ons) that actually automate the process of creating MP4 files, even AVI files, from online videos. Video DownloadHelper is one that I can think of right now:

Download Video DownloadHelper for Firefox. Download videos from the web. Easy, smart, no tracking.
