Weird video playback problem! ! ! !

Hi,

I just installed win xp on my new computer, and now i cant watch any movie files. (avi.mpg.asf.mov) or anything else that is divx coded or not.

I have all the codecs needed to play the files, and gspot tells me that there should not be any problem to play the file,

i cant even play non coded avi or mpg files, the only thing i hear is the sound, but no video.

the weird thing is that i can play the mpg files in PowerDVD
and when i load the avi files in Virtualdub the work fine. but when i try to open the files in any other media player they wont work (just sound),

and then when i play the same files on my other computer with the same OS, and have the exactly same codecs they also work, so there is no problem with the file itself.

it must be a software or hardware issue i think.

Here is my computer info.

Pentium 4 2,4 Ghz
512 mb RDRAM (RAMBUS)
Hercules 3d Prophet 9000 pro (powered by ATI RADEON 9000)
Gigabyte GA8IHXP mainboard

Please I really need help on this one because im out of ideas myself. i have tried everything i could think of

did you try old windows media player 6.4 (type mplayer2.exe from your RUN command) or any other decent player like bsplayer, powerdivx or zoomplayer?

Not too many other alternatives ;>}

Try reinstalling DirectX. it won't hurt to install the latest version of Catalyst for your Radeon too.

I lost all my video the other day, but sound still worked. I found it what the dual-head "n-view" element of my Geforce card interfering. I turned it back to single minitir and alll worked OK.

Just a thought.
