SVHS cable causes Black and White TV

Hi! I'm connecting my computer to my TV via my VCR to watch dvd and divx movies. When I connected using a regular RCA composite cable it worked fine, but now when I switched to an SVHS cable to increase quality, the picture turned black and white? Does anyone have an idea how to solve this? Thanks! /Per, Stockholm, Sweden

Graphics card: NVIDIA 32 MB
VCR: Sharp VC-MH711 with PAL and NTSC support (from 1998)
TV Philips Scart TV (from 1985)

did you try all the formats(ntsc-m, pal-h and pal-b)?
If not try changing them. this will probably solve the problem.

Your TV is from 1985 ?!?!
I doubt it supports SVHS ! That is your problem.
If TV does not support SVHS, the picture will be black & white.
How did you connected your svhs to your TV ? Through VCR ?
I doubt that your VCR supports SVHS too. I'm sure you connected your SVHS cable through scart connector. If it supported SVHS (TV or VCR) it should have SVHS connector on it's own. Altough some TV's can receive SVHS signal through scart, but they too have one pure SVHS connector(usually on front). Stick with RCA or get new TV. Sorry.

Yep it is from 1985. But really modern for its age.

Yes, I connected via a scart converter to my vcr. It seems your explanation is right, so I returned the cable to the store and went back to using an rca cable. Thanks!

you can just change the video output format too with nvidia drivers... play with those settings!

I tested some different settings but no go. Oh well, until I get a new TV, the RCA will have to do.
