    Cannot render movie

    Hello!

I got problems with playing some movie files. The problem I got is with rendering the movie. The picture below shows what GSpot says when I open the movie in it. The error is incircled in red.

I also gets this text when pressing 'more':

"This section simulates 'playing' the file the same using the same system as Windows Media Player used (and probably most other media players as well). The results of the attempt are shown here.

In this case, DirectShow was unable to play the file. The only information returned is in the form of an error message. The full error message is as follows:

    Error Number: 0x80040218

    Error Name: VFW_E_CANNOT_RENDER

Full Error Text: No combination of filters could be found to render the stream."

I am desperate, what shall I do to get rid of this problem?

    Thanks!

In order to provide a little more information that may be beneficial:

    1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

to be honest: you got yourself a pice of ****ty work!

the aspect ratio is total nonsense and this entire part of your film has only ONE SINGLE keyframe.

either some complete idiot created a file like this or someone did on purpose.

having opened the file in virtualdub/nandub did you see any picture when scrolling through the movie using the slider at the bottom?

Nothing wrong with that. The resolution of 640x480 simply means that the particular video conforms to an aspect ratio of 4:3.

As to the single-keyframed video (this really calls for snickers to whoever encoded this video), simply rederive the keyframe by using Virtual/nandub.

As a newbie when it comes to VirtualDub, how do I do that?

                1. Load up Virtual/nandub
                2. Go to File -> Open File... , tick the box 'Popup extended open options' and open the AVI file
                3. Tick the box 'Re-derive keyframe flags' and press OK
                4. Virtual/nandub will start rekeying the video stream. Wait until the process is finished
                5. Set both Video and Audio tabs to Direct Stream Copy
                6. Go to File -> Save as AVI... and give a name to the new file

I do like this but when it comes to frame 84000, it stops due to an error saying that the frame can't be decompressed. The total number of frames are 168000, but it hit me when I only open the file that it says that it contains 84000 frames (the file is around 55-60 minutes long).

Is it possible that from the beginning was a larger file that was split into two?

All indications are that the file is, in fact, only 84,123 frames in total.

As an experiment, try the following:

                    Load the file into VirtualDub
Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"
                    Save with a new filename

                    Let us know of your success ;>}

of course it does (even the gspot screenshot shows that) but you'll hardly come across a DECENTLY cropped movie that has a 640x480 resolution.
