    Codec Misconfigured???

    Hi,

I've a divx: Faust (Murnau, 1926). The sound is all right but there is no image.
BSPlayer says: "Unknown file format (DIVX)"
    GSpot says: "Codec misconfigured"
    Render: "Partial failure"

The window with the information of GSpot is attached (or at least I try to attach it) to this message.

    Anyone has an idea?

Perhaps re-installing the DivX codec will help...

        Thanks for the posts.

I've installed first DirectX, then I've reinstalled Nimo5.08 Basic (there were two error messages, I chosed to ignore).

Now, GSpot says: "4 compatible codecs installed" and "Rendering successful".

However, I still can not view the film: the image seems blocked.

        What to do next?

        Ulysse,

P.-S. I have WMP 8 (for XP) so I don't know if it is a good idea to install wmp64. BTW, I tried BSPlayer and RealOnePlayer also: no succes.

1.) wmp64 should be on your system already

          go to: run => mplayer2

2.) all newer versions than 64 are crap

            Ulysse,

Try uninstalling Nimo and installing Tsunami instead. Users of this codec pack have reported less problems compared to the former.

            Cheers.

              UncasMS,

"all newer versions than 64 are crap"

I wouldn't consider WMP 7 & 8 (don't know about WMP9; never bothered with it) totally crap. I do not use them either as I don't like the fact I can't access the DirectShow filters (as opposed to WMP 6.4) and how much more resources they take. However, people who like eye-candy or those who like flashy players will prefer this player to the admittedly plain WMP 6.4. And to be fair, I have no problems playing movie files with these "flashy" players either.

I am just trying to be impartial here.

                  Thanks for the replies,

Well, I can try other codecs, however according to GSpot, there is no codec problem. I mean, the problem seems to be elsewhere...

BTW, what is the point in using wmp64 rather than BSPlayer? Actully, wmp has several limitations compared to BS: no double audio, no sub-titles...

the answer is simple: sometimes bsplayer does not display videocontent due to misconfigured overlay settings.

in wmp64 this has never occured (because it is so simple)

and btw i prefer some more fancy player myself: zoomplayer 3

but wmp64 is so reliable that testing it against other players doesnt cost you much time nor effort and maybe you will at least verify if the video is being displayed or not.

Well, it's getting worse and worse.

I've installed directX (Required software for tsunami) than I've installed tsumani. GSpot say "codec is installed" and "Rendering successful"

                      HOWEVER

                      BSPlayer crashes, wmp64 crashes

                      Ulysse

P.-S. One can read the following on

Download the Tsunami Codec & Filter Pack, a collection of all the frequently used codecs and filters

"In fact, you may run into problems if you install too many codec/filters on your computer."

                      Could it be my problem?

install the LATEST tsunami filterpack 3.9.9

looks like you're dealing with an old version

                          Indeed, I had 3.8.9. Now, I have 3.9.9.

GSpot say "codec is installed" and "Rendering successful".

                          No crash.

However, I still can not see the image (the sound seems all right). To be exact, I can see the first seconds of the film but after that, the image remains like fixed, it gets blocked. The sound goes on.

                          Any idea???

Use FFDShow as an alternative decoder for your movie files and see whether things improve for you. You might want to try resetting your graphic card overlay settings, if the option is available under your system.

Well, how do you do that? I mean, ffdShow is installed, but I do not chose codec, I chose software: Bsplayer or wmp64... Should I configure them in a special way?

Well, once again, how do you do it?

BTW, I can view some of my problematic files with WinDVD, but not all... And there is a problem with WinDVD: you can not chose the audio of a BivX...
