    Help needed: VOB to WMV

    Am trying to convert VOB files to WMV v8 with no luck at all.

    FlaskMPEG 0.594 with the WMV plug-in craps out after a few hundred frames with some unintelligible error message...

    Was going to try using DVD2AVI to convert the VOB into AVI and WAV, but the AVI never seems to save (I get a 1Gb+ WAV file though). Plus, Windows Media Encoder doesn't recognize the .D2V files (for serving up the frames from the VOB files).

    What's the best way to convert VOB to WMV v8?

    1) The WMV plugin for Flask produces WMV version 7 files

    2) I've had no problem using the WMV7 plugin

    3) Use Flask to produce a DivX .AVI file with Uncompressed PCM sound.

    4)Load the .AVI into WM8EUTIL

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      Thanks--I will try it your work-around tonite.

      How much will the picture quality be degraded if I convert the VOB to DiVX-MPEG then into WMV v8 rather than from VOB directly into WMV v8?

        First of all, it's DivX .AVI (not MPEG).

        Second, as far as I know, WM8EUTIL will not accept .VOBs for input - only .AVI, .WMV. .WAV, and .WMA

          Not the best solution, but what I ended up doing was creating an MPEG2 file (.MPG) using Flask. It took friggin' HOURS! Maybe 18-19 hours...and I still couldn't create an .AVI file...

          The VOB shrank from 5.5GB to about 1.1GB in MPEG2...does the WM Encoding utility support 5.1 sound or do we have to wait for Corona for that?

            Why didn't you simply set up Flask to create an AVI file INSTEAD of an MPEG2? Perhaps you shouldread some of the "how-to" files at DVD Digest and DivX Digest...
