what software do i need to play mov files???
do i need to download quicktime?? or can i play these files in my Windows Media Player??

yes - although there may also be some other players (but NOT Windows Media Player) capable of playback...

There is a codec that will let you play quicktime and real media movies in your directshow capable player (such as wmp) avalible in ace mega codecs pack, if you don't want to download the whole pack, these codecs is available alone, look for "ACE Mega Codec Pack QuickTime & RealMedia AddOn"

DirectShow is included in DirectX and is used by many media players, for example:

Windows Media Player
Zoom Player
BSPlayer

...and many more, to play movies.
