    Xvid

    Dear Helpers,
After having reinstalled XP and with it all codecs,
avoiding double installations and codec conflicts, as I have successfully done many times before, I encounter a fresh problem:
Certain flics (that were playable in the past) would give an error message at all players. The message would be :"[such or such player] has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
Having checked the Flics (which were`nt ripped by me) with AVIcodec and Gspot both apps claim they are renderable/playble and that they all have something in common: being Xvid.
Having recieved the above results, I have tried reinstalling Xvid seperately and independently but the results repeated themselves. I have attached 4 screenshots pasted into one jpg file. The first is of the error message the players give, the second is of the error-message`s `more info` the third is of AVIcodec and the fourth is of Gspot.
    Thank you in advance

Thank you very much, UncasMS, for taking the time to reply,
zoomplayer behaves like wmp and Powerdvd (see previous post attach). Media player classic as well as bsplayer are immediately closed on attempt to play the file.
As for the 2nd option: I`m sorry for being a bit slow here but I`m not sure I`ve understood what exactly did you mean by `trying ffdshow as playbackfilter. That is - I do have the ffdshow filter installed with default installation settings, that is- all codecs supported. If there is any other after-installation configuration then I`m not aware of it...

no, actually apart from installing ffdshow and selecting the libavcodec (should be done by default anyway) for the supported/desired formats is all there is to it

it does not sound like the files are corrupt
maybe UNinstalling any codec and filter and then re-installing ffdshow only (for a start) may be a next step?

otherwise i would not know what to suggest since windows itself might be to blame

I`ll be trying exactly that and be back in an hour to report
          Thank you, UncasMS.

Excellent. Uninstalling all and reinstalling only ffdshow did it.
Now I should go slowly step by step and find out who if at all is the culprit codec or pack installed after ffdshow that has been contradicting it.
Thanks so much, UncasMS, for the swift solution and sorry for the bother.

                Thank you UncasMS,
I`m back to report it was a bad NIMO 5 8 installation.
Which BTW refuses to install itself correctly whatever I do. ( it wont write to msvcr70.dll andthe IGNORE option apparently ruins a codec necessary for the XVID playback.)
But since It seems that everything plays well for the time being I will not stall you with more talk and just say thanks again.
