my avi file doesnt have sound. I'm not familiar with xvid codec so i dont know where to look. i try to play it from win media player. I downloaded and installed xvid codec.
no sound. please help!

The XviD codec affects ONLY video, not audio.
1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub
2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box -

Yes AC3 did a job. It's fine now. However it's too quiet. Is there any chance of making it louder?Comment

@Passaro - transcode it with BeSweet. This allows you to boost your audio levels (and lots of other things). As well as the BeSweet engine, get either the BeSweet or BeLight GUI interface.
