Anyway, I don´t understand. I open this same AVI (without any changes) in DivX6.0 player and the image is perfect (and it uses the divx codec, isn´t it?). As you can see in the "screen 1.jpg", the problem in VirtualDub seems much more related to a image quality (maybe a video codec configuration) than resolution.<o></o>

As I said in my last post, the video image that I´m watching in vdub is so bad that I can´t see the subs I think I added!! That´s the reason.<o></o>

Do you have other suggestions to solve this problem or should I use another software istead of vdub to add the subtitles?

2 x AVI's that will play in DivX Player, but not Media Player

Hi,

I've just downloaded 2 AVI's which show the 0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER error in GSpot.

They both play well in DivX Player, but do not play in Media Player.

I have DivX 6, AC3 installed.

Any ideas anyone?

download 'virtualdubmod', and open one of the avi files with it. then under 'file' click 'file information' and post all info shown

Have attached 6 screen grabs, 3 for each AVI. Have included GSpot info and VirtualDub Info.

The Scrubs file has been downloaded. The airheads file has been ripped using DVD Decrypter and Dr DivX 1.06.

Both files used to play fine, not sure what's changed recently but they no longer work in Media Player as previously mentioned.

download & install the latest ffdshow, then go start-->program files-->ffdshow-->video decoder configuration. find "mp42" in the list, change it from 'disabled' to "libavcodec". click OK, play files

i recommend using 'media player classic' to play your files

Similar problem, perhaps similar solution

I am having a similar problem in that any and all avi files will not play correctly in WMP. They play correctly in many other apps:VirtualDub, RealPLayer, DivX Player. However, in WMP I get a "error downloading codec" message and the video plays without any sound. WMP also does not play mp3 files for I guess the same reason.

I can load the avi files in GSpot and it tells me I have codecs that should decode the sound. However, when I try to render, I get the VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER message.

I am at wits end. Any suggestions?

I read everything posted here sofar, my problem: I hear the audio, but cannot view the video. The file is an Xvid file, i got the latest drivers fromxvid but it didn't help. When loading in virtual dub i get an error on start:

"AVI: Variable bitrate (VBR) audio detected. VBR audio in AVI is non-standard and you may encounter sync errors up to 41350ms when attempting to extract WAV files or processing the audio in Direct Stream Copy mode. Full Processing mode is recommneded to decompress or recompress the audio (bitrate 132.6+-19.8 kbp)."

Audio codec problem

I have a similar problem with an AVI file that I try to play back on MS Media Player v10. The video portion is playing back perfectly except there is no sound! I've ran it through SGpots utility and it told me I have the codec installed. But with a footnote saying “Unable to render audio”

Audio codec problem

Thanks for the quick reply. I've just downloaded the codec as suggested and try it on. There is sound when I try the play back, but unfortunately you'll only hear scratching and total unrecognizable sound like an encrypted voice messages Guess this is not be the right audio codec for the AVI file.

try to use media player classic to play back the file.

I believe so. I've MS Media Player, Real Player as well as QuickTime installed. And this is the first time I ran into audio problem.

Just try it. The same pitching and unrecognizable sound!
