    playback problem: codec unknown

I download panic room and my media player does not play the dvix. I have divx 5.0. When I play the file I get no sound and no picture. Both audio and video codec are unknown according do MP properties.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Load the file into VirtualDub
Under the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
Post EVERYTHING listed (or post a screen grab .jpg of the information).

Chances are, you'll need to download and install the DivX v.3.11alph codec...

      file 2 of 2
      frame size: 352x144, 7.000fps
      # frames : 27713
      Decompressor: uncompressed rgb1
      number of key frames: 27713
      min/avg/ax total key frame: 6336/6336/6336
      no delta frames

      file 1of1
vdub doesn't even open the file
"invalid avi file: chunck at 2036 extends outside of parent by 252 bytes"

      What should I do?

Your file 2 is not even compressed with anything and at 7fps, it is not watchable or enjoyable in any way. Can Virtualdub scroll through the video and display anything at all? If so, you can specify a compressor and compress it into a DivX file. However, I doubt that you can get any decent playlength and, I'm sorry to say, you seem to have got a bogus file.

p.s. And Virtualdub does not display any information on the audio?

No it doesn't have any information on the audio compressor and when I play the file there's no image either.

          Thanks for the help anyway
