I've got video but no sound.

Hello there, can someone tell me why some DivX movies will play the video but not the sound. I've downed the Nimo pack and it solves some video but not all.
    Thanx and greetz, Yoshi4184

It depends on the audio format that was used to create the file. Most often, you'll discover that the file has an AC3 audiostream. In order to play such a file, you have to install (and register with Windows) the iviaudio.ax filter, which is available at many DivX related sites.

If you already have WinDVD (NOT the demo version) on your system, you've already got the file - you just have to register it with windows (You can do this by running DVDGenie and selecting the WinDVD tab. Then select "more options". Click on "Register filters with windows").

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      Is there another way?

Is there any other way to register that file cause I've got it in my windows\system32 I've also got the Nimo Pack and the Tsunami Filter Pack so I think I got the file out of one of those two.
      Thanks for helping me!

First, copy iviaudio.ax into the "Windows\System directory. Then create a batch file (a plain text file saved with a ".BAT" extender) as follows:

        c:\windows\system\regsvr32 iviaudio.ax

Run this file from a DOS box. You should see a brief message stating that it was successfully installed...

BY the way, if you'd like to determine, with certainty, the audio format, do the following:

        1) Load the file into VirtualDub

        2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

        3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

This thread caught my eye because its discussing what I need answers to also.

I have a video file with no sound. in wmplayer8 it loads without any errors coming up but no sound plays. in mplayer2 (the older media player found on your comp) when i load the movie, it has a warning saying.... "Unable to load neccassary decompressor"

SO, i went into vdub and checked out the audio stats and here's what it gave me back....

            Sampleing Rate 48000mhz
            Channels: 2 (Stereo)
            Sample Precision: 0-bit
            Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)
            preload skew: 12000 samples (0.25s)
            # of frames: 76019
            min/avg/max/total frame size: 12/1001/120000 (74321k)

Im hoping its only becuase i need to download some audio codec that i dont have. Think you could help me out?

Your problem with the video but no sound.

Try the same as I did. Download DivFix version 1.0* somewhere and copy the file. Then rebuild the index and try again to play the file. If that doesn't work try downloading the Nimo codec pack and the Tsunami filter pack. It should solve the problem. please let me (us) know if it did. Goodluck anyway!

                To CrazyLegsMC

                "Unknown (tag 2000)"

This identifies the audiostream as being created in .AC3 format.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, in order to play such a file, you have to install (and register with Windows) the iviaudio.ax filter, which is available at many DivX related sites.

                  He's right!!!

What setarip is telling is very correct but in both the codec packs these filters are included and properly registered in Windows! I'm not trying to compete who's answer is best but only trying to help!

once i have dled the codecs and installed them, will i still have to go about this registering proccess?
