No picture, just sound... help please

HI all,

I downloaded the 24th episode of 24 Series 5 and it will only play the sound, not the picture.
I have the DivX codec installed, and have just installed a couple of packages such as K-Lite Code package etc.
nothing I try seems to work, and i REALLY want to watch the last episode.

the 23rd episode worked without problem and with just the DivX codec.

can anybody suggest things to try?

Get rid of all the codec packs, clean your system out, then check what container the file uses, what streams it contains, etc. then install the appropriate decoders/splitter and it should play. Chances are that it is an XviD avi. So DivX should work. I would still recommend XviD or ffdshow for decoding.

if you don't know how to do that, another alternative is to simply download and install VLC player. free, and will play just about anything under the sun with it's own internal codecs/decoders.
