    Extract audio from video

I would like to make an audio-only file out of a video (MPEG-4) I have. Google only returns strings of uninterpretable gibberish about demuxing that is completely beyond me, preceded by stupid software trials that take $30 to extract any legitimate use from. There's got to be a simpler way! Any hints?

If the file is ASP MP4 (DivX or XviD), you can use VirtualDub(Mod) to demux or save WAV

If the file is AVC MP4, you can use YAMB

I guess I don't understand how YAMB works...it seems the file needs to be an .AVI to extract audio?

AVI is merely a container. I don't know for sure what kind of file you have. Let just have an example that you have a file with H264 for video and ACC for audio (You can check your file's information with Media Player Classic). Load YAMB, go to Extract tab, press Input and load your file. In the Informations window, it will show Track #1 and Track #2. Just notice the Track # for audio, for example Track #2. You can either select "Extract Track ID in raw format" for .acc file or "Extract Track ID to new MP4 file" and set the ID to 2 and press Extract to extract the audio

Wow perfect! On behalf of all fellow reforming Luddites, I thank you. (and now I can listen to Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii!)
