    Odd compressed playback of mpg

I have a bunch of mpgs and avis in my collection and every now and then one of the MPG files seems to have a time code issue.

I have a p4-3,2gHz running winxp Pro 1gb memory. WMP, Power DVD, The Player, and others.

    Here is the problem. Scenerio...
I load the mpg (or MPEG) i.e 48mb and it lists a length at ~ 30 secs. There are no a/v sync problems but it locks at the end. the interesting thing is that this should be about a 10 minute clip. after 5 secs I can click the time bar just previous of the played frames and it shows a completely different scene. each time it will continue to the end of the time bar and stop. It is impossible to watch the entire clip.

Maybe it is a codec issue? Maybe a encoding issue... but I have never found an answer to the problem.

Any info or directing to a reading source would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    MrBob

try running the files through projectx; it'll demux the streams and should correct any anomalies. mux to mpg again with something like tmpgenc

    there's also videoredo's quickstream fix
