Please help ! DVD quality ?

    Please help !
I am totally new to Video (but not to photography).

I am planning to get me a videocam.
But I have no exprience whatsoever.
    Maybe a Sony DCR-HC96 or a Panasonic NV-GS500.

I wonder how good (or maybe how bad)
these cams compare to SD DVD's.
(I mean those DVD's You buy.)

So I found some Canon HV10 video samples (to experiment with)

This canon HV10 is a HD camera. But it can also film in miniDV
so i am looking at the 720*480-file (actuallY 854x480x24 why ???)
    : "HV10_480P_H.264.mov"

    ---- Question: -------------------
I Import this file ("HV10_480P_H.264.mov") into Vegas 7 then export to Mpeg-2
then import in DVDarchitect and burn to DVD.
The DVD has not as good quality as the beginning file "HV10_480P_H.264.mov".
(I allso tried SVCD-burning in Nero 7 = very bad indeed.)
Am I doing something wrong ?
Why is the DVD not as good ???

pardon me that was with dvdflick
I am testing with nero vision next to see if it hoses the aspect ratio also

I am trying to learn this same kind of stuff

attach some screenshots from your programs, no need to burn to disk just save to hard drive

I do know going from cam video(non standard dvd compliant) is a royal pain in the arse
