    Codec problem

Hi, I am running XP, and I seem to have a problem trying to play back ANY movie I downloaded. I've tried quite a few codec, like angelpotion, the newest version from divx.com, divx311 alpha, etc. Any recommendation? >_<; It doesnt show any pictures, only sounds.

If it is an avi-video it is in the most cases a kind of DivX/MPEG4. Uninstall all codecs and only install one codec. DivX 5.0.2 should play everything. Use a player like BSPlayer.

The primary problem with wmp7 is that you can't access DirectShow filter properties, this works with wmp6.4.

I've tried to install quite a few codecs....maybe its wmp8 thats blocking it or something? Overwriting some stuff the divx codecs I downloaded and installed? Is there a way to uninstall wmp8? I cant do it form Add/Remove program in control panel.

are you sure, you dont already have wmp6.4 on your system??

type mplayer2.exe as a run command

to find out what kind of codec is needed, open the avi in nandub/virtualdub and take a look at FILE INFORMATION.

i'd suggest to have divx3, ms v2 and divx5 installed.

virtualdub can be found at digital-digest, doom or using any search engine.
in addition to that, it is part of the gordianknot pack!
