Trouble w/ Videos using AC3 sound.

I'm at my wits end here, so hopefully one of you guys could help me out. I have a video that uses AC3 sound and, to put it simply, there's no sound when I play the video in WMP or DivX. The video plays just fine, minus the sound. I've tried DL'ing various AC3 filters/decompressors along with various Codec packs that seem to include solutions, but nothing seems to work. However, the thing that really throws me off is the fact that the sound works perfectly on my VLC Media Player. I'm not sure what the two do differently, so I can't figure out why it works with one, but not another. Also, if I try burning the video to a DVD, the DVD ends up not having any sound either. Anyone know what the problem might be and/or a possible solution? Many thanks in advanced.

What type of video is it?

Do one thing: Demux the Audio and Video using VirtualDub and save the audio as direct stream copy. Now try to play the sound separately and see if it plays.
