    HD Video Player and workflow

We now have a new Conon HV20 HD camcorder for just shooting around the house and neighborhood.

    We use Apple Mac computers.

Rather than use the Camcorder for playing back stuff, I would like to have an HD film player (and probably backwards compatible for other formats, too) to hook up to the computer for that purpose. Any recommendations?

Also some recommendations for good, easy to learn software and whatever else one might consider worthwhile to make the work with this level HD Video pleasurable. We are starting from scratch and not doing anything pro-level.

    welcome to the forum

there should be a ilink/firewire option so you can capture to your mac, then edit/convert and burn to dvd for watching on television

But for that, since I would have made the tape away from the computer, wouldn't I have to use the camera in order to play back the tape so I can copy it to my CPU?

I was thinking of a machine that could play back the tape to my computer while someone else used the camcorder.

Doesn't someone make a simple unit that would play back the tape when I want to copy it? Or when I want to watch it on my TV?

      Thanks,
