will digital 8 camcorder play hi 8 tapes?

I have a mixture of hi 8 and digital 8 tapes that I need to get to dvd. I was going to purchase a digital 8 camcorder to play them on to transfer to dvd, does anyone know if it will also play the hi 8 tapes as well, or am I going to have to get a different camcorder for those?

Digital 8 camcorders are usually backward compatible to play Hi8 analog tapes.

thanks a lot, the information on the link is very good. I've purchased a digital 8 camcorder on ebay this morning. So hopefully I'll be able to convert the tapes before too long.
