Playback issues of SVCD to Avi files?

I have converted some SVCDs to Avi using Gordian Knot and DivX Pro 5.02, following the instructions at Doom9. They play back just fine on my computers, and some others as well. But I'm finding that more people seem to have problems with them than Avi's where the source was a DVD. An example is people who have explorer crash on them with the svcd-avi clip, and then that same person has no problems with a dvd-avi clip.

Is this a known issue, or perhaps is DivX 5 more to blame?

divx5 works fine and in the end it doesnt matter what the source was.
