    Coding with VP70 codec taking long time

    I have a movie compressed with XVID in an AVI container. It's just over 2 hours long, resolution 704x288, frame rate 25 fps, Video Data rate 1480kbps, sample size 12 bit, audio AC-3 ACM Codec.

    I loaded the movie into VirtualDub (v1.7.2) I've added permanent subtitles (using filter TextSub 2.23), and cropped the width of the picture to 566 pixels. I re-compressed the video using the ON2 VP70 (v7.0.10.0) codec, which I find to have better quality than XVid, DivX and H264, with smaller file size per bitrate). I'm recompressing audio using the Lame MP3 codec.

    My problem is that the job has taken about 48 hours! It never takes anywhere near this long using DivX, XVid or H.264 at the same bitrate. Is this time factor normal for the VP70 codec?

    The VP70 settings are:
    Bitrate: 1500 kbps;
    Mode: One Pass - Best Quality;
    Sharpness: 0/7;
    Noise Reduction: 0/6;
    Material: Progressive;
    Auto Keyframe selected;
    Max Frames Btw Keys: 360;
    Undershoot: 95%;
    Quantizer min/max: 4/56;

    I would appreciate any advice that may avoid this time situation in the future.
