I am having a problem with my digital recorder. Volume of captured files is reduced, requiring hyper advancement of volume levels on playback devices. I will deal with recorder preferences and see if I can track down the cause of this difficulty.

I have captured files that are not easily replaced, is it possible to boost the volume level of the mpg files before I burn them to disc?

I don't have experience with expensive authoring and editing packages that may do many operations for you. But with a freeware like AviDemux you can export the audio track to a file, use an audio program to modify it, maybe BeLight or Audacity or some other, then just import the audio back into AviDemux and save. In AviDemux use the Audio menu to export and import the audio file. You can find AviDemux docs here:

I capture my video to my PC hard disc and then edit it in movie making software (Sony Vegas Movie Studio), where I can bump up the volume on the relative sound tracks prior to rendering a MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG4, or .WMV file.
Sony Vegas Movie Studio will also let me render only an audio only track (wav format if desired), and then I will stick that wav file through an audio editor (Audio Studio Deluxe), where I can increase the loudness, re-render the wav file, and then stick it back into the sound track on Sony Vegas Movie Studio.

      Good luck !

You can adjust the volume with Audio Editor Gold.
