Toshiba dvr read problem

I owned a previous Toshiba dvr that my NEC ND-3550A could read discs after formatting. I purchased a newer Toshiba but can't read these dvds after formatting on the same NEC drive.

Also, is there a way of formatting dvds if your dvr dies before the formatting can be done???

hi Guy. by formatting you're talking about setting them to dvd-r or +r format, or do you mean finalizing? I have a toshiba dvr myself and just record on the blanks as is and finalize them. no problems reading them w/my burners. did you install a new os or is there anything on those discs that might cause your drive to not read them?
