hi8 problem playing

I've been trying to convert an old hi8 video tape to dvd and when I put the tape into the old camcorder it won't play the video, just shows blue screen. When I fast forward I can see the video, but when I go to play it normally it just blue screens again. Any suggestions?

Try to clean the head of the camcorder.

thanks, I kinda thought that it wouldn't hurt anything to clean the heads but I can't find anywhere that has the dry tape cleaner things. I'm looking online now and so far not having any luck.

Do you know of site that explains how to do it without the tape?

Here's a method. I have never done this manually.Always used a cleaner tape.
