problem with slider in wmp

I downloaded a a movie and can not use the slider in wmp.
It is a windows media file. The movie plays in wmp but I can not movie the slider, which means I have to watch always watch the movie from the start.
Any help in fast forwarding the mov would be greatly appreciated.
