You can resize using the resize filter. But going from 704x396(AR=1.77) to 640x480(AR=1.66) will mess up the aspect ratio and you will get a distorted picture. The correct size would be 640x360(AR=1.77).sigpic

1.Determine the aspect ratio of the source(16:9 or 4:3 or 1.85 etc.)
2.Encode ur avi using the RESIZE filter in VD. Here specify the size keeping in mind the original aspect ratio.
Example: Original AR=1.85
U want the avi to have an width of ,say,640 pixels.
So,640/height=1.85
Hence height = 640/1.85 = 346
But XviD requires height or width to be multiples of 16. So rounding off 346 to the nearest multiple of 16 we get 336 or 352.
So u shd encode at 640x336 or 640x352.
Hope I have not confused you.sigpic
