    ac3 sound track won't compress.

    Please and thank you,

whilst working on a home movie - I have three dvd clips converted to xvid, each with their own ac3 5.1 sound track that I wish to append together only virtual dub refuses because they have different sample rates and when I try to convert them all to the same rate virtual dub refuses saying:-

    Error initializing audio stream compression:
The audio codec cannot compress the source audio to the desired format.

Check that the sampling rate and number of channels in the source is compatible with the selected compressed audio format.

Everything is ac3 48hz 384bps 5.1 (according to virtual dub which I suspect is misreading some information about the audio file because when I try to append the segments together it reports no2 as having a 31.25000 sampling rate whilst in the file info tab it reports as 48000hz)

Is there another program that can give more information on the audio part of the file? But surely Virtual dub would not mistake an ac3 file for something else?

Where am I going wrong? As far as any guides suggest I have done everything correctly, Two whole days wasted already with zero progress!

Much thanks in anticipation of your wisdom.

Hm, I have an Ac3 filter installed - can't remember which one, think it came from sourceforge and is listed in vdub, but thanks for the response I shall investigate.

AC3Filter is a Directshow filter whereas Virtualdub is a VFW application. So you will need the ac3acm codec for encoding.

          k-Lite Mega Codec pack.

Thanks for pointing that out, I have K-Lite mega codec pack installed which appears to use the Soundforge Ac3 filter as well - I tried to install the ac3acm codec without uninstalling the previous version, the installation seemed to go well but I still can't encode ac3 in Vdub even though I do get the options to select the various formats of the Ac3 file (2.1, 5.1, sampling rates etc, I had these options before as well).

Do I have to uninstall the K-Lite codec pack? or is their another way of removing the soundforge ac3 filter?

Upon further investigation of the Mega codec pack the latest versions include ac3acm codec not sure about 1.53. I will now try updating to a later version of the codec pack.

          Thanks again for your input.
