DVD Movie Factory vs TMPENC DVD Author & DVD-Lab ????

Trying to figure out why I have a sync problem with both TMPENC DVD Author & DVD-Lab when I have no sync problems with Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 using the same source file. DMF 2 doesn't have the menu options I want that is why I'm trying the other programs.

I've tried demultiplexing with TMPENC PLus & I've also tried the demultiplex option with DVD-Lab also. DVD-Lab shows the demultiplexed files "status" as "ok". No matter what I've tried with both these programs when authoring a dvd I get sync problems.

Why does DMF 2 work fine but not the others????

    Frustrated!!

I use TMPGenc DVD Author all the time and have never experienced a synch problem. In fact, I find it to be an easy to use editor/burner. What are you doing different? I just bring a MPEG2 or VOB in and work on it. Are you demuxing and submitting indivual streams?

I use my Hauppage PVR250 to capture analog video as a dvd mpeg file. Have no sync problems with DMF2. Below are the settings I use:

      DVD: "standard play"
      Output stream: "dvd"
Variable bit rate: 6400 bit rate > 8000 bit rate peak
      GOP's: 15
      Resolution: 720x480

      Audio: Stereo
      Mpeg1 Layer 2
      Sample rate 48000kHZ
      Audio Bit rate: 384kb

I use that mpeg file to work with. DMF 2 no problems. I've also tried demuxing with TMPENC PLus & using the individual streams with with TMPENC DVD Author & also with DVD-Lab. I've also tried using the source mpeg file with DVD-Lab and using it's demuxing feature > always out of sync!!

Does this have anything to do with the codec the programs use? DMF 2 uses the MPEG.Now codec.

Grasping at straws at this point.

I like the TMPENC program & would be happy to buy it if I could get it to work properly!!

      Any help would be appreciated!

Have you ever tried taking the MPEG2 capture file directly into TMPGenc DVD Author without demuxing it first? If the capture is in synch the output should be in synch. there's no need to feed demuxed streams into DVD Author.

hmmmm. I don't know anything re. your capture HW/SW, but I suspect (since each manufacturer can write his own standards for MPEG's...because there are no industry-wide standards) that it's nonstandard. I have a Dazzle MPEG2 device, and one of the things Dazzle did to force you to use its software was to intentionally make its MPEG2 not work with anything but MovieStar ( at least until it was processed). It took a lot of effort of countless users to figure out work-arounds. Hauppage probably has a user forum off their website...and users there might be more familiar with Hauppage-friendly software and work-arounds. You might try demuxing in TMPGenc and REMUXING using "Simple Multiplex" as a "MPEG2 Program VBR" (thus creating a TMPGenc-made MPEG2...which should work in DVD Author...but if it is a nonstandard MPEG2 format TMPGenc will probably refuse one or more of the streams.)

              Tried that.

              Thank's.

Well...did it work? Were the streams accepted into simple multiplex? Was the resultant MPEG2 out-of-synch? Was it accepted by DVD Author? Was DVD Author's VOB out-of-synch? When does the out-of-synch first show up? ooooeeeeeooooooooo....mindreading like crazy here.

Yes they were accepted & resulting file was out of sync & with DVD Author also.

You can correct the sync problem by adding or removing a delay to the audio.

First load the MPEG into Virtualdubmod then use the audio delay settings to find the right value that makes it sync with the movie.
When you have this value use it in your authoring program to correct the offset.

Correcting synch can be a tedious trial and error process...and it doesn't solve the problem....just cures the symptom. I find it odd that the same in-synch demuxed streams would remux out-of-synch. What TYPE of audio stream is it (LPCM, PCM, mp2. AC3)?

Well it seems to me that there has already been some sort of skew applied to the audio in the first place by the capture device, maybe to compensate a lag in the video.

When capture cards do this the original file usually plays fine, but then once demuxed often causes a sync problem.

It just seems strange that DMF is able to detect and handle this skew whereas DVDlab and DVDauthor seem to ignore it.

Have you tried IFOedit to remux the MPEG to see if it's in sync or not? I know it deosn't have menu options, but it will be a good test to see if it also happens with IFOedit.

Also have you tried the alternative multiplexing engine in DVDlab? It has sorted one or two problems for me in the past.

I agree, ashy...it looks like a capture anomoly created by a capture card designed to work with a specific piece of software (DMF). I was thinking that if the audio stream was LPCM converting it to mp2 might solve the synch problem (as well as reduce the vid size by 1/3)

I've seen a few posts about using "program stream" as output type instead of dvd. I'm going to try capturing the video again tomorrow with the different setting.

Thank's everyone for your input. Will post with the results.

                              SUCCESS!!!

I created a new setting with the PVR 250 recorder. Used the DVD "standard" setting I posted before & changed the "Output Stream" to "program" > (kept all the other settings). Captured the concert again with the new settings.

Opened the new file in TMPGENC DVD Author, created chapters & the menu I wanted > no sync problems at all!! Burned a disc > plays fine on both my computer & my home theater dvd player.

I can't find the link to the info I came across about using "program" instead of "dvd" for the output stream > if I recall correctly it said something about padding & header info.

Thank's everyone for helping out! Now it's time to start recording MANY concert tapes to burn layer.

I guess it's time now to ante up & but TMPGENC DVD Author or DVD-Lab.

                              Thank's again!
