    DMA with Raid

I am not able to figure out how to turn DMA on. I think it is probably due to the screwed up way I have my HD's and players connected but I wanted to get some input to try to fix this.

Specifically, it looks to me after looking through the FAQS lke I have to reconfigure my drives. Following is my nero history log and what I think is pertinent:

    Windows XP 5.1

    WinAspi: -

    NT-SPTI used
    Nero API version: 7.2.0.3
    Using interface version: 7.0.5.6
    Installed in: C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\

    AFAIK, SATA/RAID has DMA off.

      via 880 chipset?
      vt8237 southbridge?
here's what it should look like
course I am using the promise serial raid controller
dma does not apply to serial drives

I am using an MSI K8T Neo2 which is based on VIA K8T800 Pro North Bridge and VT8237 South Bridge. It also has a Promise 20579 Raid controller on board. The motherboard supports 2 SATA connections and the Raid controller also supports 2.

The Lite On DVD player is an IDE connection and is connected into the IDE 1 slot.

The Plextor DVD writer is a SATA connection and is connected into the SATA 2 connection.

The WD hard drive is a SATA connection and is connected into the SATA 1 connection. It is my 'main' hard drive with the OS on it.

The Maxtor hard drive is a SATA connection and is connected into the Promise SATA 1 connection. This is my backup hard drive.

I am hoping DMA is my problem, since whatever I do it shows as off and I can't get a burn to go through.

Unfortunately there are some issues with plextor sata drives and via serial chipsets.

Operates in PIO mode only--can not achieve optimum performance

Yuk, I heard there were some issues but that is the first concrete source that indicated a problem.

I have a NEC 3550A that I can slip in there and give a try. Hopefully that at least resolves the DMA issues.

            Thanks for your help.

              cott,
give it a try but you might need to roll back drivers for your ide controller to windows default, dma should have been on for your ide optical drive
one of the last guys returned his sata plex and changed for pata, it worked
another thing, you would think the promise sata would work?
I have a 40% OC on my amd64 and the via controller corrupted windows in a week or two.

                  Thanks,

I intend to replace the drive and fool with it a bit. I had to order a new one so it will be a bit. I'll follow up and let you know how it went.
