    Nero Issues

    Hi, am new to the forums as well as DVD Back up. I had been backing up my DVDs, successfully for a while. Now my Nero returns an error after DVD Shrink has finished encoding the DVD. Also my DVDFab Decrypter has slowed down to a snails pace. The error message I get after DVD Shrink is ready to go is this;

This is the newest version of Nero. Also, if I try to use the Nero Smart Star to burn the DVDFab Decrytper image from the HDD, nero home --> Nero recode --> add folders == Nero Not Responding ??

I am not sure what changed or occurred as I was having great success, now I am sunk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply! (sorry I posted twice, wasn't until I posted the first time I realized I was kind of taking over someone elses thread). I was able to get my DMA up to 2 for my Device 0, but not 5 as it reads in the article, and my Device 1 to 2 as well. Should the 0 be at DMA 5?

The 5 should be on the Primary and the secondary channel should show the 2.

Is there a trick on getting it to 5? Some way for me to set it to 5? Also, seems good with my DVD Shrink and Nero again, much appreciated

You are looking at both the Primary and the secondary channels right, not just the secondary #0?

In the secondary channel DMA 2 on both should be fine.

Tried to post the screen shot of the desktop with the devices, let me try again. Is there a trick to getting one of them to DMA 5? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

port 0 usually is the primary and dma 2 is fine for either optical drive

port 1 in this case is a sata drive and disregard dma for it

                iaStor

the intel application accelerator can cause all kinds of problems

OK now we need to see if someone with a little more knowledge on this.

What does your secondary channels show?

Edit: Thanks Chewy, I missed that.

Just did a test burn, from start to finish. DVDFab Decrypt, DVD Shrink to encode with Nero as the burn engine...Everything is working as it did before, as far as I can tell (fingers crossed). Chewy, you are saying that I do not need to worry about the set up of my DMA, they are correct? When I was getting the errors the Device 0 was set to PIO. Followed the Golden Rules of Burning step 3 to correct that.

Thanks for all the help, and pointing me in the right direction.

the dma part is fine, but your setup is still an accident waiting to happen

                      my dvd burners are masters

my sata's are shown as sata's on port 3

                      hope dell supports that burner?

I am not sure how much support Dell will provide, did some checking and others have had problems. Any way to change it to a better setup?

Darn, just did another back up and this one failed again, same error as before when Nero goes to burn....Blarg!

Would using +R or -R make any difference? shouldn't this burner do both?

drop nero and recode for now and test imgburn

lot of dell crap running/sonic/mydvd etc

imgburn even has a tool for turning that stuff off

poor history with those dell drives
