Help, Nero 7 wont install or now uninstall on vista

Ok, i got a copy of nero 7 to install on my vista system. it is a brand new copy. went to install. went through the moves and then just stopped. left it there for a long time, rebooted, tried again and it keeps stopping and wont install it. then i went to uninstall what is there, and it wont uninstall now either. I had 6 on there, said it removed it then install, but it wont work at all. i tried to reinstall 6 wont do it either. looks like most programs are in there, but when i click on the start, it says something not install and reinstall, but it wont.

i found a start for nero 6 buried in the machine after i installed it and can get it to open.

burning a disc in shrink still works, though i still get the run.dll errors after its done when i open up where the files are.

what can i do. i cant install or uninstall. tried to delete the folders themselves too and cant either.

I could not even install Nero 6 on Vista.
Maybe you need to contact tech support at Nero.
They have some special removal tools to get rid of remnants of previous versions.
Wish I could help more, but Vista is still too new to many of us.

For uninstalling Nero 6 you need the Nero CleanTool 6 and Nero CleanTool 7 for Nero 7:

thats whats strange. nero 6 installed and worked fine, but when i burned a dvd, when i went to the files it stored on the drive, it gave me multiple run.dll error windows, but that did not effect anything except those pop up windows. all i had to do was close them after i deleted the files.

when i went to put up nero 7, it would not install all the way. it said it had to remove nero 6, then it went to install and hung up. tried multiple times, and would not install. then tried to uninstall, would not, gave me errors and said it was closing down uninstall.

tried to install nero 6 again, and hung up again.

tried to delete the files itself from drive, would not let me. but i found the icon for nero 6, when clicked, says compatibilty issue, but then opens.

dvd shrink still burns using nero so i dont know what to do. at least that works, but now i got nero 7 and cant do anything with it, or uninstall it.

Why dont you try the cleaning tools (esp the Nero 6 tool) that Benbryant provided links for.
My guess is that something from your Nero 6 installation is causing the problem for Nero 7.

Download the latest update for Nero 7 that you find on the Nero homepage and use that one. When it's installed - fill in your serialnumber. You installation CD could inlude an installation bug.

i just saw those after the last post. i have downloaded it and will try it tomorrow, thanks so much. i hope it works.


what do you suggest, if it removes it , do i try nero 7 again, or go back to using 6?

i just want it to work with shrink, which i was able to use with 6.

is there a trick to installing 7, or just put the disc in and hit setup?? do i custom install only certain things or install it all?

Nero 7 has "known compatability issues", if you do get it to install you are very likely to have more of the same problems you have just had. I got it to install by running the install as admin and it was working with Shrink for a little while, then it started interfering with other programs and causing errors and just making my life miserable. I use imgburn now and it works much better. Good luck with the uninstall. That wasn't fun for me either, but i did eventually get it off. Make sure you are doing everything as administrator.

I have the same problem installing NERO 7 and hangs even after using the general clean up tool of Nero cleaning every bit of Nero 6. So what I did was to re-install NERO 6 and updated it with the new 6.6.1.15a version. Watch out for other burning programs like Roxio or Sonic D2D and iNCD will clash don't install them though inCD in Nero7 was disabled by default during installation. My advice Stick to Nero 6 at least you have the Nero player too.

BTW, the general clean up tool won't clean everything. Go windows explorer and go to PROGRAMS folder and find NERO 7 folder in there. Manually delete it sub folder at a time before re-installing Nero6. Nero WMA plug-in will install with NERO 6 anyway.

I'm also having similar problems with Nero 7.8.5.0 with Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
Ok so I get it to where the progress bar is there, it goes really really slow and it uses 100% CPU usage. Sometimes something will pop up that says Nero has to update files you will have to restart bla bla so I press ok for the installation to continue, and it moves really slow, then that pops up again then the same thing happens a few more times until this one error pops up. I did a printscreen of it but I forgot to save it. It was weird thought...
I did the Nero general clean tool for 7, I have to restart now then i'll try setup again.
