OK, welcome to the forum and maybe a one stop help solution?

your dvd burner is quite old and it's firmware probably can't see those disks right?

first I need you to download and install Imgburn, sonic is probably the worst program ever released for cd/dvd burning

ImgBurn is a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application that everyone should have in their toolkit... and it's free!

    welcome to the forum

after installing Imgburn post back and I can help you update your firmware to start backing up your files

try to stay off the internet as much as possible, even using another computer to fix yours

the latest firmware for your drive would be codeguys patched for the 1653

you'll have to use it since it's written to flash all of that family of drives, even ones made for other computer companies that have long abandoned firmware support

flash from safe mode, either of the bottom CSOT's

take some time and read up on the flash and imgburn, there's still a lot to do

              this one should work

you will need winrar(the trial works fine) to extract it tho

At this point that's your only alternative, at least you need to try this before buying a new drive.

it does say BPSA, mfg. date 11/04.
                    that's over 3 years old

obsolete! really time for a new drive anyway
