PowerDVD 7.3 and Windows Vista x64

I'm having a little problem with PowerDVD 7.3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x64. The program seems to run fine until the image freezes out of the blue... then, the program just closes. I've only tried it with DVDs (I use Media Player Classic to play files). I also tried using the Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode and got the same results... After a few minutes of playing any DVD, it will look like it is paused and close itself. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Hi epiCasino,

My laptop came with "Cyberlink DVD Suite" which has PowerDVD 7 (not sure if it is 7.0 or 7.X).

Q1: Did your PowerDVD program come with your Computer?

Q2: Has your Power DVD program installed itself under C:\Program Files (x86)?

Q3: Have you added any other DVD playing program besides PowerDVD to your computer? If so, what?

Q4: Have you added any "New" drivers of any kind?

Q5: Did this problem start from day one or just recently? If recently what have you added or downloded from internet?

EDIT: I might have found "Your Solution" in the Thread below ... BTW, there are a lot of reports of problem with PDVD version 7.3 crashing ...

Please post back your results for the next person benefit!

    Thanks,

    G!

Hi! No, I bought all the different hardware parts and put the computer together myself. There was no bundled software.

Yes, that's where the files are.

No, just PowerDVD 7.3. It's the best as far as I'm concerned.

No, I'm using Catalyst 9.1 drivers right now, but they were installed before I installed PowerDVD. I didn't install any drivers of any kind after installing PowerDVD.

From day one. I can't watch any DVD for more than 5 minutes (it's registered, it's not a trial version).

I don't think that guy and I have the same problem. When I use PowerDVD to play a DVD disc it plays fine (like it did on XP) for about five minutes. Then, suddenly the image freezes and the program closes, without even an error message (as if I had closed it myself). Really weird. I'm gonna try to fix this somehow (Vista's XP SP2 compatibility mode didn't do anything), because I don't like PowerDVD 8 or the latest WinDVD.

        Hi epiCasino,

Q1: Did you ever fix your problem!?!?

Everything points toward your Graphic Card and it's SW ... So, if your problem has not been fixed ... see if any of the followings will fix your issue ....

There has been reports that PowerDVD 7.3 4617 works ... 4617 was through auto update last year, but you can also download it manually. Go to "Configuration" and click "Upgrade".

If you are using 8.12 ... then get 8.12 hotfix.
BUT, I just heard that 9.2 should be available today at ATI ... so may be just try that.

BTW, buddy of mine uses 9.1 and works fine for him. Just uncheck "Enable Hardware Acceleration". That should do it.

        Post back your results.

        G!

Hi gonwk! I never use hardware acceleration. When I click on "upgrade", there are no upgrades available, maybe I have the latest 7.3 version already?
My problem wasn't fixed completely... let me explain. The program no longer closes itself (I stopped using anydvd with it), now it randomly shows a "paused" image while the sound continues and after something like 10-15 seconds, everything is normal again...
I'm guessing it's some sort of driver problem. I'm gonna wait for catalyst 9.2 to be available and see if that helps.
          Thanks for replying!

EDIT: Catalyst 9.2 drivers are available right now!
