    Analyzing Crap Media

A while back I bought some media on the report of a TY mid code,
Yuden T02, the blanks came, they were windata, made in hong kong.
For my analysis I will use cdspeed, first I will creat a data disk in my benq 1620. Then do a disk quality scan. Notice the lower clump of PIF's at 4.1gig
This is the important area to watch in the other graphs.

now a transfer test in a picky fast reader, see how the read drops at our problem area

now for the same test in a slow reader with excellent error correction

top graph upper portion is the burn speed line(6x-12x)
if you look at the top white line, you see the clump is not speed related,
to verify this I burned some at 4x and 8x, it's dye spread problems.

I think plex may have a test for blank media

I had 3 bad burns in a row with my nec 3550 and the windata disks and I thought oh no! Not to worry, burned a sony Yuden T02 and still scanning 98!

I notice that yuden 002 come with diff. quality, the whole box could be 95, or 97, 98, or 99. I think diff. box have diff. quality. best buy one is lower then the Sam I have.

Do also remember that (unless you wanna copy it), it needs ot be read by your player at 1x.

You should only use genuine Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. Many thanks to www.pcx.com.au for their supply and great service.

If you are interested, another tool able to do tests on blank media is Qsuite, but it works only with benq drives starting from 1640 on.

                      You're welcome

QSuite is a free tool that can be downloaded from benq site here (direct link to Qsuite)

It wasn't in my benq 1640 retail package because it was developed after a month I bought my drive, but probably it will be included in package of new drives.

If you are interested for a new benq drive I suggest you a 1650/1655 (1655 is the same of 1650 plus lightscribe feature).

I'm planning to buy a 1650; I don't need lightscribe, and 1650 costs less than 1655 in stores where I saw it
