Issues with authoring DVD...

what a log,
let's start by cleaning up some junk, get rid of aspi(killaspi)?,

how do i do this? what is aspi, firstly?

other burning program(sonic,easycd,veritas) imageburn or dvdd are fine.

i thought i deleted all those demos/programmes? i swear i did!!! i even deleted them through the control panel 'add remove programmes'. man.

Disable any virtual drives(game images) etc. Go to msconfig and
do a real housecleaning of items in the startup.
Uninstall INCD!

how do i disable all those virtual drives? you know, i don't even know how they got there...a friend of mine plays 'worlds of warcraft' sometimes on my computer, but that's pretty much it...what on earth is a 'virtual' drive, anyway...? do i get any extra virtual space with it?

free up some memory, a lot of it! It's not that you will need that much more,
the programs running in the background just cause conflicts.

how do i free up extra memory? also, how do i know WHICH programmes, small or otherwise, are running in the background? i sometimes use 'task manager' to tell, though i'm not 100% sure it picks up everything...

that's bad not good, two programs trying to do the same thing are like 2 people trying to drive the same car, crash!

i'm scared to turn off my anti-virus, to tell you the truth...i'm using avg anti-virus at the moment...i don't have spyware/popup blockers turned on either...do you recommend me turning off anti-virus programmes when i am using my dvd burner??? isn't my computer susceptible then???

you've probably got 2 or 3 things hurting us, problem is which ones?
btw aspi is obsolete, as is W98 and it's era of programs
one av program won't kill us, however if it's not updated it's not protecting
very well, turn it off to burn, just don't open any virus while it's off.

thanks for the 'memory freeing up' tips. i think i've already noticed that my system is going faster...i have SO much crap running without me knowing...

about that friend. he no longer lives in my city. he's a good state or two away right now. i don't see him, i speak to him, though...i'll see what he'll do for me.

i'm not quite sure what to do with the aspi thing. should i download the file from that page you provided and then use the 'killaspi' function? or is it not worth doing...that page says that aspi is needed to burn, as xp doesn't use it.

i am using avg anti-virus, which CONSTANTLY downloads updates and the like. once or twice a week, it would seem. should i turn that off when i burn???

from my nero burn log, did anything else strike you? is there any other programme conflicting with the burning, perhaps???

Nero has it's own aspi layer, other good burn programs like Imageburn
and DVDD use xp's seti interface. I haven't had any problems with my burns
and I don't have any winaspi installed.

it would be nice to see a nero burn log, not a authoring one, that's just another variable
you are adding to the equation. There are too many unknowns already.

alrighty...i killed the aspi thingies, and tried to burn again -- burn error again...i'll include my nero history log. please let me know if it is something else you require...

the bottom one is all we need, it says burned ok
however 12x on 8x media is a nono!
winaspi is still installed as is INcd
looks like your firmware(1.14) is almost as old as I am

i deleted incd a few days ago...i must have small demons on my computer that are screwing around with it...i swear i deleted it! i used the 'add remove programmes' option, and i got rid of it...i'll do it again, then...

would the dvd burning programme correct itself when asked to burn 12x on 8x discs/burner??? also, of late, i haven't even managed to get as far as the actual 'burn' part...

what exactly 'burned' okay??? i haven't been able to burn anything for a few days now...

chewy golden rule,
don't clean up computer, get rid of virus, fix things, then use system restore
to unfix!

the firmware update failed...

i left the computer on overnight and it said that there was an error and that it failed...

things just don't work on my computer anymore...i couldn't system restore and i couldn't update my firmware...what could that mean?

EDIT -- tried firmware again, and it worked...

gonna try to burn once more...

in 1997 chewy bought first new computer, 1800$ for a P133 32 megs ram
1.6 gig hard drive,W95 2 weeks later chewy hosed computer(totally)
23 hours later I finally got the computer reloaded.

you know, before the dvd/cd burning wave, i knew quite a bit about computers. when everything was dos based. man, that seems like AAAGES ago...

sorry for the american slang, hosed is bad, very bad! car won't start

instead of spinning your wheels(getting nowhere slowly) sometimes it's better
to just bite the bullet(give up) and do a clean install.

well, 10 minutes into the burn, it failed again...

i'm gonna reboot and try again, as you said...

when you say a 'clean install', do you mean a formatting of my harddrive??? i have lots of stuff on this harddrive which i can't really lose...
