probably your burner's firmware, liteon's usually have this problem with dvd's.

With good media and a newer burner, 16x cd burning is usually slow enough.

    that's only 2.4 MB/s

    4X dvd burning is about 5 MB/s

if you want a good cd burn, buy good media like verbatim or sony or even better made in japan taiyo yuden, not junk like tdk's

its actually not mine its a friends. i think it's LG like mine... and all she told me was that model name. whats the most likely cause of the lowest speed only being 10x ? i woulda thought nero was the cause?

nero shouldn't have anything to do with it, it's the burner's firmware and media used that limit the choices

like I said 16X cd speed is slow, 10X is even slower

I think its the CD-R especially if you are using 52X CD-R. I think because of the high speed compatibility of the disc they limit the minimum disc writing speed probably to avoid jitter and unbalancing forces at lower speeds since acceleration is proportional to the square of spindle speed. One other thing is that high speed disc tends to be heavier than lower speed due to the thicker metal layers to dissepate heat thus a constant optimum spindle speed is critical to avoid rotational unbalancing that will greatly affect the writing of data into the pre grooved geometries. I only see speed of 8,16,32,48 if using 48X CD-r so if you are using 52X the progression could be 10,20,30,40,50. Not sure as i don't use 52X but see the drop down speeds on your Nero burn window. I would be comfortable to write half the optical drives speed capability.
