Stripped Unwanted Audios from DVD, still got problems

The original audio tracks set-up of the DVD looks like this:

• English 5.1
• Spanish
• French
• English Descriptive/Narrator track (for the blind/visually impaired I guess)
• Director’ Commentary

I want to keep English 5.1, English Descriptive/Narrator track & Commentary.

I managed to STRIP-OFF Spanish & French tracks with VOBBLANKER. The DVD works fine but I’m still not happy because in PGCEDIT, Narrator track is still track 4 and Commentary is still track 5. Tracks 2 & 3 are NONE. I expected English Descriptive/Narrator track & Commentary track would SHIFT-UP to Tracks 2 & 3 respectively.

When I play the DVD in POWERDVD, it’s similar. I right-click to see what audio tracks are there now, I still see all 5 track listed except Spanish & French are GREYED OUT & disabled.

I only want to see the 3 remaining tracks in POWER DVD.

I have not burnt this to a DVD-RW yet. I prefer to fix the mess on the computer first.

Try running it again or else you can use DVD Shrink to remove unwanted audio.

This may not be trivial and you may need to remap all SetSTN commands which are directly set. You can use the PgcEdit's DVD Shrink plugin to see if a logical remapping of enabled streams in DVD Shrink would work. If so, perform this operation in DVD Shrink.

Thanks for the first few replies, guys.

If I use DVDSHRINK first [by unticking all unwanted streams], do I tick "LOGICAL REMAPPING OF ENABLED STREAMS" in PREFERENCES>OUTPUT FILES? Or leave it UNTICKED?

Also, "remap all SetSTN commands" sounds HARD! Can you guys help me out if I post screenshots of PGCEDIT/VOBBLANKER/anything else? Or post IFOs?

I hoped I explained ok when I wanted to see only the 3 chosen audio streams in POWERDVD & PGCEDIT / VOBBLANKER. You know, shift tracks 4 & 5 up to be 2 & 3 respectively. But the Set-Up/Languages menu [leading to the narrator track] and Extras Menu [leading to Commentary track] must work too.

What makes this hard for me is the audio tracks I want to remove are in the middle of the original audio structure! If I wanted to keep the first 3 tracks, just get rid off tracks 4 & 5. No probs with "remap all SetSTN commands" at all.

That guide is obsolete, blu. Now, it is easier to use the "delete" checkboxes in Domain Stream Attributes.
But you're right: the SetSTN commands will need to be remapped.

You can check if that option is safe with the DVDShrink plugin for PgcEdit, as blutach said.

If it's safe, just do it, and everything will be fine.

If it's unsafe, you can still tick this option, but you will have to modify the VM comments that select the stream to use. That's not always easy, but it is very difficult to explain how to do it, as it depends of the original authoring. If you're lost, post your IFOs and the menu buttons commands (or the MenuShrinked menu VOBs) here, and I'll try to explain...

Just adding to this:

Streams are set in 2 ways (each uses a SetSTN)

1. Directly - essentially, set stream number ##
2. Indirectly - essentially, copy what is in a gprm to the audio (or subpic) stream register

Type 1 are easy to remap and DVD Shrink does a great job (when Logical Remapping is "on").

Type 2 are a bugger and DVD Shrink can't handle it. So, you have to check if SetSTNs are mapped this way and in fact change the GRPMs that set them. Typically, these are set in a menu (so menu editing is required) or in the PGCs (so PGC command editing is required).

Getting the idea that this is non-trivial? You should ask if it is worth it, as you risk messing up the stream selection if you don't remap them 100% correctly.

Note: It is ALWAYS safe to have logical remapping "off" and is my recommended procedure (of course, I tend to keep stream 1 only anyway, so it's never a big deal for me).

IFOs

Hi

I've upload ALL the IFOs in one ZIP file. The IFOs are of the DVD after I stripped off the the unwanted audio tracks.

The DVD in question is INSIDE MAN.
The stripping was done with VOBBLANKER alone.
I've chopped off a bit at the end of the last chapter (chapter 20) [boring end credits] with VOBBLANKER too.

I don't know how to post "menu buttons commands (or the MenuShrinked menu VOBs)". Did you mean get a screenshot? A shot of which software .. PGCEDIT or VOBBLANKER?

I also noticed that when the movie ends, it leads to the Bonus Features menu. There are only 20 chapters in the movie but there is 21 according to POWERDVD. It's the 21st chapter that leads to the Bonus Features menu. I prefer the end of the movie to lead to the Main Menu and give the movie only 20 chapters.

As far as I know, that's right, and that works with all players I have tested so far. But I've read that it is not possible to change the stream with the remote when there are gaps (the streams marked as "none" in PgcEdit) between valid tracks, with some standalone players. This might be a good reason to remove the gaps anyway.

BTW, there is an easy method to avoid the indirect SetSTN and the gaps between tracks problems at once: just duplicate any stream to fill in the gaps. It's easy to do with PgcEdit.
Let's suppose stream 0 is english, 1 is french and 2 is the director comments, and you want to keep only streams 0 and 2.

• Verify if the streams remapping option of DVDShrink is safe with the DVDShrink plugin for PgcEdit, and if it's the case, use Shrink with that option on to strip stream 1. That's all you have to do.
• If it's unsafe:
  1. strip the stream with VobBlanker or Shrink with the remap option off.
  2. Load the new DVD in PgcEdit, and double click on all PGCs with a gap between streams. Copy the number(s) displayed in the first button (stream 0, english) to the gap (stream 1, french). This will duplicate stream 0 to stream 1. Close the PGC editor.
  3. Modify the Streams Attributes of the current domain to duplicate also the stream attributes from the entry 0 to entry 1. For an audio stream, you have to modify also the description of the audio format.
  4. Save and test. The drawback of this method is that you have now two different entries in the stream list for the same content, but IMO, it doesn't matter too much.

In PgcEdit: Info -> Menu Button Commands.

It is easier for us if you can post a zip file with the menu VOBs. Since a menu VOB can be very large, you should process it with MenuShrink before. (Work on a copy, of course!)

Your DVD has a mixture of indirect and direct stream settings. A logical remapping is probably not safe.

@r0lZ - yes, that is true about the remote issue - I have it myself on my NAD where stream gaps exist (but not on my SONYs, go figure!). Nice idea on "filling them in" - perhaps it's also a good idea to hide the menu button of the filled in stream.

OK ... done the above codes adjustment as advised by BLUTACH.

Yeah, after Ch20, it leads me to MAIN MENU. However, POWERDVD still reads the Ch21 though this time it's the main menu. How do I fix this so only Ch1-Ch20 are shown & then back to Main Menu as planned?

Now I've enclosed a screenshot of the PGC editor for the Main Movie [PGCEDIT_VTST1_MainMovie.JPG]

I'm concern about some of the thing I seen there (circled) :
1. 2nd & 3rd audio tracks (Tracks 1 & 2) are NONE.
2. 2nd & 3rd subtitle tracks (Tracks 1 & 2) are NONE but are not GREYED OUT.
3. After Chapter 13, evertthing looks DODGY!

Also enclosed Domain Attributes for the movie but I'm sure all the experts out there can guess what it would look like!

Ch21 is probably a blank cell, don't worry about it.

I only want to see the 3 remaining tracks in POWER DVD.

To not see the disabled streams in PowerDVD, use logical remapping method to fill the gaps. You also have to adjust some commands as well.

Here's how:

1. In the Domain Streams Attributes dialog, select Delete! for Audio 1, Audio 2, SubPic 1, and SubPic 2. Click OK. Then select No to search for SetSTN commands. In the PGC Editor, you will see the audio stream IDs have been logically remapped to stream position 1 and 2.
   
   Now it's time to adjust some commands:
2. In VTSM 1, PGC 15, btn 4, change (SetSTN) Set Audio stream = 2 ; LinkPGCN PGC 11
3. In VTSM 1, PGC 16, btn 1, change (SetSTN) Set Audio stream = 1 ; LinkPGCN PGC 11
4. In VTSM 1, PGC 7, delete pre-commands lines 5-8. They're not needed.
5. In VTSM 1, PGC 3, pre-commands,
   1. Change lines 8 & 15 to highlight button 9.
   2. Change line 9 & 16 to highlight button 4.
   3. Now delete lines 6,7,13,14.

Don't forget to hide the buttons for stripped audio and subtitle streams. Since you hide the Spanish and French subtitle buttons, might as well delete these subtitle streams in VTS 3,4,5 by following step 1.

I think this should do it.
