Just on this issue, LG's combo drive (reads both Blu-ray and HD DVD) has had a massive price drop, only $AUD 170 ($USD 157). That's even cheaper than the Pioneer Blu-ray read-only drive, at around $AUD 220. The LG also includes Cyberlink software for playback, but only the 2 channel version. It's a good deal for people wanting to get into Blu-ray/HD DVD on the PC.
