Default Six reasons you shouldn't use the PS3 as your Blu-ray player

http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9941740-1.html

Despite the somewhat sensational headline, the article does list some of the drawbacks of using the PS3 as your main Blu-ray player.

I will add that while the lack of support for Universal remote is an issue due to the PS3's use of Bluetooth rather than IR, the Bluetooth BD remote is excellent to use, very nicely laid out and because it uses Bluetooth, there's no line of sight requirements. With the remote, then point 3 (interface not easy to use) is no longer a problem either.

Also, my 40 GB PS3 is not noisy for movie playback at all, and mine is out in the open. It is noisier than your average DVD player, but my standalone HD DVD players sounds just as noisy (it has a fan).

1. Doesn't work with universal remotes.
Actually, you can use the PS2 universal remote with the PS3

2. It's louder than standalones.
My 80GB isn't loud either

3. Interface isn't as easy to use.

There is a lot of information out on how to set XMB to get the most out of the PS3.I feel that it is easy to set up,and there isn't that much to set up. I can understand how it could be intimidating to some people

4. You have an older AV receiver and need multichannel analog outputs.
It is some what of a draw back, but not the end of the world. You can set the PS3 from PCM to bitstream and still get 5.1-6.1 surround. This should hold people over until they can afford a proper receiver.

6. I need to see my receiver light up and say "Dolby TrueHD."

LOL Shouldn't be a deciding factor unless your REALLY picky

But didn't Sony MAKE Blu-Ray? That's still not avoiding them if you even buy the discs...
