One-third of consumers in the US and UK have made a copy of a DVD within the last six months, according to a report from Futuresource Consulting. The firm surveyed 3,613 people in the US and 1,718 in the UK to discover their "home piracy" habits, and attempts to paint a somewhat ugly picture of casual copyright infringement even though a majority of users who make copies are doing so "legitimately" (for personal use).

Consumer: Oh come on, everyone else does it!
MPAA: Yeah right, there's no way... Here, I know, let's ask everyone if they copy DVDs or not!
Consumer: See, I told you it wasn't just me!
I heard a sales rep for our local computer store telling people about a certain transcoding program... So copying DVDs has gone mainstream now
I don't see why the MPAA cares so much... Downloading ISOs is one thing, but if you own a DVD and back it up, you already paid them for it and it's not like you'd buy a second if you couldn't back it up...CYA Later:

Hello everyone. Been awhile since my last visit. Hope everyone is doing well during these hard economic times.
You know, if they are so worried about copying, then there should be a certificate that comes with every single movie DVD, music CD, game/data CD, whatever, that guarantees a free replacement if the original is lost or damaged.
A simple process. each certificate has a number, like a key. This number matches the key on the disc. If your original is lost or damaged, you submit this number to an online site or by telephone or fax, and they create a new exact replacement that has the same key. This key also shows up on the purchase reciept and is also sent to a database so that it is easily proven that your key is legit and has proof of purchase, from where and when.
With today's telecommunications, internet and such, and beings 99 percent of buisnesses do their account tracking and such via VPN or online, this kind of system would be easy to put into place. Without the purchase reciept and the certificate with numbers that match up, no replacement. This can work just like a warranty thing.
The technology exsists to make this copy nonsense irrelevant and a thing of the past. Society has far more important things to worry about like the cost of fuel and groceries and day to day living expenses.
The tools are there and have been there for several years now. Its not a question of if...but when.
Cheers!!!
The copy garbage is like this smiley...they are yellow, we are the purple..Comment

I know Disney has a disc replacement program... but has anyone actually used it? Luckily I've never had one get destroyed... though if Paramount does that I'd love to get my School of Rock fixed...CYA Later:
